My 4th week
March 6-9, 2023
Teaching is difficult, but watching students benefit from and appreciate what we offer is satisfying and gratifying for a teacher.
How did my fourth week go? It was certainly exhausting, but I'm so glad that I made through another week. I produced teaching materials to the best of my ability, received praise from my cooperating teacher, teach m learners to the best way I can and most importantly, remained healthy and cheerful throughout the week despite of not feeling well.
The students were perhaps the hardest part of this week. I handle the Camia section this month of March and I can say that it was difficult to manage them. As I've observed them, some of them may be disruptive at times, which has tried my patience. As I was dealing with and teaching those young learners for the first time on Monday, it was the most difficulty day of my week as a pratice teaching intern. I initially struggled to control their behavior during the discussion because they showed to me how unruly they were acting at that time. Some students were standing and staring outside, while others were talking with their seatmat, but most of them were listening and taking part in the discussion. I would say it was a struggle since managing their behavior was not hat easy. I choosed to focus on the fact that, despite the disruptive learners, some are still open to listening and learning from me.
During my first day of observation with the Camia section. I was able to identify thier strengths and weaknesses. When I asked them to write letter and number in their notebook I noticed that some of them strugglled when it comes to writing. I remembered one of them cried then I asked why but she didn't respond, maybe because I asked them to write number (14)and perhaps she doubted her ability to do so. So, I supervised her to writed until she eventually completed it on her own. To be clear before giving them the task to write I had previously taught them to write the number (14). Some learners learn in the class more readily that others, but as educators, we must provide direction or help those who need it (ZPD of Vygotsky). I must also admit that we might use more flexibility. If there was a weakness of my learners, I also noticed their strengths and with that my Kinder Camia babies loves to play when learning. On my fourth week, I used play based- I used dice and paper that has dare such as Dare #1 Clap your hands 1-10 and so on) on teaching them numeracy I saw they participated during the game and I saw with my eyes how much they enjoy it. My CT appreciates how well my performance went and added that I'm learning from my tiny mistakes before like utilize more engaging materials and when teaching young learners just enjoy it like a professional teacher. I followed her advices and remarks on my prior performance. I'm really satisfied. For instance, having the necessary confidence, being creative and innovative, and catering to the various learning styles, needs and interests of learners. My CT also noted that she believes I have the passion for teaching, that I have made significant progress and that she expects nothing less from me than the best from my upcoming fieldwork as a teacher. She compliments me for exceeding her expecations, which fills my heart with joy. I'm fortunate to have my CT as a mentor because I learned a lot from her and I am more eager to learn and grow as a teacher in the making.
Several experiences have happened this week from my first day as I struglled with the learners to loving it toward the end of the week. This week was one of the rewarding week so far, one of the finest weeks I've had as practice teacher because I encounted both challenging and rewarding interactions with the students and my CT. I feel incredibly fortunate for this week and all of the knowledge and experiences I gained.
